In addition to a new color collection for decor papers developed especially for the Latin American market, the brand is set to present the projections for the ExpanDecor project in the region.

Munksjö is set to showcase a series of novelties for clients, partners, and other visitors at ForMóbile—International Trade Fair for the Furniture and Wood Industry 2024—held from July 2 to 5 in São Paulo.

Among the highlights is the first presentation of a collection tailored to the Latin American market: “The Essentials.” I

Among the highlights is the first presentation of a collection tailored to the Latin American market: “The Essentials.” It is a selection of 64 solid color options for decorative papers for laminated surface materials, created under the careful curation of their partner design studio in Paris to meet HPL/CPL and LPL transformation processes. In other words, the perfect union of global trends with the favorite colors of the Latin American decoration market!

“The Essentials collection brings together a versatile range of white, neutral, and intense colors, combining our best-sellers in a pocket version that facilitates visualization and selection while providing a comprehensive view of the best cost-benefit ratio for the market’s most desired colors,” explains Tadeu Souza, Head of Sales & Marketing at Munksjö Latin America.

Munksjö will also present its M-FOIL pre-impregnated papers for the first time in Latin America. It is a unique range of value-added “clean and green” pre-impregnated foil base paper that is formaldehyde-free and uses only FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council® license code FSC-C019019) certified wood fibers. M-FOIL papers are suitable for many end applications; we can find foil finish products almost everywhere, such as furniture for living, sleeping, and working spaces, ceiling panels, interior doors, profile wrapping, caravan materials, and many other special segments. The growth of pre-impregnated papers is expected to accelerate in the coming years due to the attractive product characteristics of the finished foil: a sustainable and cost-effective solution with very good aesthetics and a warm, natural feel.

ExpanDecor: double the capacity, double the efficiency

ExpanDecor: double the capacity, double the efficiency It will be hard to visit Munksjö’s stand at this year’s ForMóbile and ignore the ExpanDecor project, the largest investment by the Munksjö Group in the region. The project is worth 175 million reais (around 30 million euros), and its main initiative is the modernization and conversion of one of the paper machines (PM7) at the Munksjö factory in Caieiras for the sole production of decorative papers – print base papers (PBP), low-pressure laminate (LPL) papers, and high-pressure laminate (HPL) papers. At the end of the project, scheduled for the first quarter of 2025, the Caieiras plant will be able to produce 4-, 5-, 6-, 7-, and 8-foot decorative papers.

“After the completion of ExpanDecor, with a state-of-the-art paper machine in terms of embedded technology, the Caieiras factory will double its production capacity, being able to meet 100% of the Brazilian decor paper market and export to other Latin American countries. Additionally, the machine upgrade will result in a 30% to 50% reduction in plant water usage per ton of paper produced, in line with the Group’s sustainability agenda,” says Valmir Piton, VP of Munksjö Latin America and General Manager of the Caieiras plant.

Caieiras is an important plant for Munskjö to serve our customers with a local supply platform.  “Caieiras is an important plant for Munskjö to serve our customers with a local supply platform. The investment in capacity expansion and technology enhancement at the plant underlines the group’s confidence in the Latin American region and our commitment to continue serving this market with excellence and quality consistency,” concludes Dr. Manfred Bracher, CEO of Munksjö.
